It only took me about 8 seconds to fall in love with The Faraway Island that is Nantucket. As our ferry approached (after an hour and a half trip from Hyannis) I felt like we were inside a storybook, the little sailboats gliding by, people waving from their yachts, the water glistening & the sun shining, the tiny lighthouse that greets you as you turn the corner to dock…the scene was set and it was even better than what I had envisioned.
In our short but lovely stay on the island we had ice cream at the Juice Bar (long line but so worth it!), walked the cobblestone streets where they have the most charming shops; Ralph Lauren complete with a Jeep Wrangler parked right in front and a window display with yellow and white striped beach umbrellas as well as a European style changing tent.
We peeked inside Mitchell’s Book Corner and stopped for a drink at The White Elephant. We walked towards the beach where the tiny lighthouse was admiring the shingle style homes, perfectly manicured lawns and of course the hydrangeas. Nantucket was quaint, very New England, very chic. I shall return soon, maybe I’ll retire there and open a bookshop. Little trips like these are always inspiring, so once we got back to Cape Cod, we curated a Nantucket book collection…hope you like it!
